June 9, 2010 National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA Annual General Meeting was held at the newly refurbished Museum of Nature.June 9, 2010 National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA Annual General Meeting was held at the newly refurbished Museum of Nature.
Outgoing Y Board Chair, Jeremy Farr gets things started for the business portion of the evening.
Once the business portion of the night was finished, Y President and CEO Tony Pacheco welcomed the crowd and paid homage to the efforts of outgoing board chair, Jeremy Farr.
Nancy Cook Johnson, now the Chair of the Y Board of Directors, addressed the crowd.
Jim Taggart then spoke about the incredible success of the Capital Campaign, having reached $8.5 million out of its $15 million goal. Jim then spoke of all the Campaign milestones, and recognized five special donors.

From donors to volunteers – Monica Baker is a volunteer aerobics instructor at the Ruddy Family Centre YMCA-YWCA. She also is battling cancer… for the second time.
Monica spoke of how Y volunteers work from their hearts, hearts that are only the size of ones’ fist, but with unbelievable room for support and consideration of others.
Passing of the torch and recognition of Jeremy’s work over his term as Y Board Chair. Other retiring board members were also recognized.
Wilda Phillips then took the podium to announce the recipient for the first annual Wilda Phillips Bursary Fund, Anda Hirceaga.
As the event moved to close, Y President Tony Pacheco announced the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year – Christine Gibbard. Christine has been a friend of the Y for 39 years! She is also a stalwart supporter of the Y Women of Distinction Awards.
The evening closed with remarks by Y Canada President Scott Haldane.
It was an elegant night at the Museum of Nature – the hall resonated with laughter and was warmed with friendship. We hope you can come again next year!
